STEPS TO REFINISH A STRIP & PLANK
SOLID HARDWOOD FLOOR UNFINISHED
1. First cut is a coarse to medium grit
except if you have extra work like removed
paint or glue from the floors if this
is the case floors in California recommend
that you hired a professional in the
trade of hardwood floor refinish.
2. Sand two thirds of the floor parallel
to the grain. When the two-thirds sections
is complete turn the sander in the opposite
direction and repeat the process on
the remaining third. Cuts made in the
one-third area must overlap the first
cuts by about two to three feet to blend
the two areas together. Never stop the
sander in the exact same spot each pass
by staggering the overlap every 2-3
passes maximum 3 passes remember floorsincalifonia.com

square edged products may be spot or
trowel filled apply the wood filler

1/3 hour to 45 minutes.

8. Repeat the edging procedure step
4 using the last sequenced grit as on
the sanding machine REMEMBER ALWAYS
YOU HAVE TO USE THE SAME GRIT YOU USE
WITH THE BIG MACHINE FOR EACH CUT.
9. Hand scrape corners, around door
jambs or other areas where the edger
cannot be used be careful and don’t
damage the hardwood floors. Apply even
pressure, scraping in the direction
of the grain. After scraping use a sanding
block and paper (same grit as on sanding

the groove with the corner of the block
may be necessary on bevel-edged products.

and even in the whole area.
